Are reading glasses ruining your look?

Tanja has joined us for today’s tutorial so we can demonstrate how makeup can be adjusted for those of you that wear glasses.

Reading glasses in particular widen your eyes so you can really play around with colours. Not only that, but the frames often obscure the eyebrows. Tanja has had her brows tattooed on so we’ll take a closer look at these. And lastly, depending on the style or colour of your chosen frames, you can also pick a lipstick shade that you perhaps wouldn’t normally go for. So let’s get started.

Step 1: A fine start

Start with a fine black line across the eyelid and keep it really close to the lash line.

This will instantly enhance the eyes, we’ll also just bring a tiny line from the corners down onto the beginning of the lower lid.

Using a soft, flat brush blend the pencil line in a downward motion which will begin to smudge it into a gradient.

Step 2: Classic smokey eye

Next, we’re going to add to that a shade of dark brown eyeshadow which we’ll apply using the brush in an upward direction this time. This is the classic smokey eye technique.

We’ll also take this colour lightly across and under the lower lashes.

The middle colour should be a shade lighter and we’ll go right across the central part of the eye.

Finally the lightest colour; we’re almost at a white shade now for the upper part of the eyelid, as well as a light application to the lower eyelid, taking it out towards the corners.

We’re also adding a white pencil right into the waterline. White eyeliner really freshens the eyes and can hide any trace of red or tiredness.

Pro tip: This is a simple smokey eye method and with a bit of practice can be achieved in a matter of minutes - quick enough to fit into anyone’s morning routine.

Step 3: True Blue

Tanja has lovely green eyes so to contrast these we’re going with quite a heavy application of blue mascara which will really make them pop.

The main idea of this tutorial is to show you how you can play with colour when you’re wearing glasses. Perhaps next time we’d go a little lighter with the brows as the darker colour draws more attention eye to them rather than the other features. Otherwise though, we’re happy with the overall finish. What do you think?
