We’re out shopping again, this time with Eva. We’re on the lookout for two outfits today, Eva will choose something for evening wear and we’ll select the more work-friendly outfit for the day time.
Eva found herself a great outfit in Tally Weil that we’ll use to style the evening outfit. And H&M, something more suitable for day time.
Styling is more than just the clothes you wear, you need to think about all the accessories that will go with the clothes. Earrings, jewellery, scarves and hair accessories can make or break and outfit so choose carefully and select items that will complement your clothes. And it’s the same for the makeup, when everything has been carefully thought out that’s when you’ll see the magic start to happen.
We went a bit crazy in H&M because they had so much great stuff in there, let’s get started.
Step 1: Topping up
As Eva was already wearing makeup we’ll just top up with a little more colour.
Eva has deep set eyes so we’ll start with a dusky pink eyeshadow on to the main eyelid area, then we’ll apply a darker shade to the outer side.
We’ll take this quite wide and sweep it outwards to give it a hint of 1980s style.
Shimmer next, just to the central part of the eyelid and blend the colours together well.
Finish the eyes with a black liner, Eva’s eyes are the perfect shape for this.
Step 2: Tricky business
ZAO foundation, one of our favourites, all over the face and then some concealer beneath the eyes.
Makeup on makeup doesn’t always work, and it’s not going too great for us today. If you are going to top your makeup up several hours after the first application then it’s best to use the same one. Trying to apply different textures or brands just doesn’t work as well, foundations can drag and we’re struggling to get the eyeshadow colours to blend.
Step 3: Cheeks and lips
On to the contouring.
Let’s aim for the space between the nose and mouth, we just want to lift the face and not make her look too… “bitchy”.
Brush on a little pale pink powder to the cheekbones, this will lift the cheeks and round them out nicely.
Eva has quite full lips so we’ll just apply pencil to the inner edge. We’ve chosen a taupe shade which is quite warm and will complement the finished outfit.
Step 4: Almost done...
Back to the eyes. We’ll just gently brush some colour below the eyes, close to the lash line and use white pencil eyeliner to the bottom waterline.
So, with all the makeup finished it’s time to play around with all those accessories we bought earlier.
Beret or no beret? Yellow bow as a neck scarf or headband? There’s so many ways to wear things and it’s always fun to play around and experiment with your outfits. Which do you prefer?
