Daring colors for the summer

You can't deny that summer is THE time of the year to put those vibrant, daring colors in your eyeshadow palette to good use. You have a bit of glow going on, a nice tan, so why not emphasize that with a cute eye makeup look that is, by the way, perfect for a happy hour on the beach. Or in the city. Ok, let's just say you should definitely go have a cocktail or three with this summer makeup look. ;)

Base

In the heat of the summer, the last thing your skin needs is a thick layer of an oily foundation. Instead, opt for a BB cream, which is better for your skin and looks more natural. Aim for a soft, thin makeup application or, if you feel like your skin doesn't need coverage, skip this step altogether and rock what Mother Nature gifted you with.

Eyes

Primer is crucial when doing eye makeup. Unless you want panda eyes after a couple of hours without an air conditioner. Apply a thin layer on your eyelids and blend it with your fingers.

Next, line the upper lid right next to the lash line with black kohl pencil.

In the outer corner, thicken this line and make sure it does not extend over the natural end of the lash line. Now blend it with a soft flat brush and downwards motion to avoid creating a mess.
summer-2
You want to lift the eyes in the outer corner, which is why the line can be thicker there. When you're finished blending that, take the same brush and go a bit above the blended line, creating a subtle gradient with the color left on the brush. This will also serve as a good base for the powder eyeshadow to stick to better.

Lime green (matte) is our daring color of choice. It should look especially good on brown eyes, hint hint ;) Pack it on the lid carefully with a flat brush.

Don't go blending the color as soon as it touches the lid, rather press it on the lid with the flat side of the brush to ensure a an even pigmentation. Take a bit of the same shade also along the inner half of the lower lash line.
summer-4
To warm up the look, i.e. make it wearable, shade the outer half of the lower lash line with a chocolate brown eyeshadow and blend some light brown or beige shade in the crease of the upper lid.

Add a coat or two of your favorite black mascara on your lashes before moving on to the next step.

Brows

Shape them and fill them in with a neutral-toned eyebrow pencil/shadow.

A word of advice : If you pluck your brows, do it in the opposite direction of their growth. This should help the hairs to grow back strong, not weak and thin.

Lips

Since the eyes are a bit crazy-colored, you have to create some balance with the lips to avoid making the whole thing look cheap. Definitely choose a matte finish, and vary the lipstick color according to your coloring. For example, blonds can go for a rusty pink stain, but if your hair is darker, maybe try a nude lipstick or a my-lips-but-better pink shade. Line the lips with a nude lip pencil before putting on the lipstick to guarantee a good staying power (you'll be drinking cocktails, remember?).

Glow

Sure you may have a natural glow working for you already, but just to define it a bit more, we're going to bronze you up. Swipe the bronzer with a soft brush on all the high points of your face – the ones that tan the quickest: top of the forehead, cheeks, bridge of the nose, and tip of the chin. Voilà, beach goddess!
