Make your freckles shine through!

Oh, freckles, the proverbial kisses from the angels, the cutest little stars on the face! Setting the sugar aside, we strongly encourage all the freckled girls and women out there to embrace their skin's natural state, because it really is gorgeous. To give you an idea of how easy it is to bring the freckles forward while minimizing any stubborn redness and dark under-eye circles, we have prepared this easy-peasy tutorial waiting before you. Enjoy (and learn)!

Step 1

Freckled skin is often at the same time also pale skin with redness quickly showing on the lids, around the nose and mouth. Since we'll be doing the eye makeup first, prepare a neutralizing concealer with green tint, which you will use to prime the lids, as well as neutralize the redness there. Blend it with your fingers, but carefully, so that you won't irritate the skin and cause additional redness.

If there's too much green showing after the blending, use a bit of skin-colored concealer over it, like Jure did in the video.

Next, use a light brown matte eyeshadow, tapping it all over the lid with a fluffy blending brush. Blend it into the crease as well.

Close to the upper lash line, apply a chocolate brown matte shade with a flat brush, same as you would if you used an eyeliner. Instead of finishing with a flick at the outer corner, blend the chocolate brown upwards with the same brush, approximately to the middle part of the lid. It's almost like doing a soft smokey eye, just without the flick in the corner.

Step 2

With a big, fluffy powder brush apply compact powder with swiping motions all over your face. This will set the skin and prevent oiliness, as well as even out your skin tone. The freckles will still shine through, since this is the point of our makeup look. Using a moisturizing concealer, tap it just on the under-eye circles, around the nose and chin, if needed.

Step 3 (for upturned eyes only)

Apply the chocolate brown shade along the lower lash line to define the eyes a bit more. Downturned eyes sadly don't really benefit from this step, as it only pulls the eyes more downwards.

Step 4

YSL Kiss&Blush in shade 12 is THE blush freckled girls need. It's almost the same shade as freckles usually are, you can use it as a blush or contour, and it just melts seamlessly into the skin. For this look, swipe a bit on the top of the forehead and put a few dots on the cheeks. With your finger, tap the product into the skin.

Generally speaking, cream products tend to yield more natural results (in comparison with powder ones), so if YSL is out of your budget, try to find a cream blush in a delicate peachy-brown shade and a cream contouring product to use in this step instead.

Step 5

You don't need much on your lips for a look like this. A rosy pink gloss, or even a clear one, will work just fine for the au naturel, fresh type of makeup that you're doing here.

Step 6

Finishing touches include the brows and the lashes. To frame the face, fill in the brows with a brow powder. Avoid making your brows "Instagrammable", i.e. like caterpillars on the wall, and go for a soft look instead.

We've saved the surprise for the end. Since the whole look is quite the opposite of wild, spice it up a bit with blue mascara on the lashes.

Don't be afraid to try something new, step out of your comfort zone every now and then – especially with makeup.
