Let's bust two makeup myths right away: Eyeliner doesn't have to be black to look chic. Your eye makeup doesn't have to include ten steps to look perfect. You can be chic and look put together by using the short tutorial below to recreate this insanely beautiful cobalt blue winged eyeliner look.
Cobalt blue, baby!
When you have oily lids or your eyes are hooded, it's super important to prime and set your lids before putting on any colored products. This helps prolong the wear of your eye makeup, as well as intensify the colors. So for this step, we decided to use a transparent, mattifying powder to set the lids. Swipe it over the lids, up to the brows, with a fluffy brush.
The next step is especially useful if you have protruding eyes, like our model, because it will visually push them in. Take a matte neutral brown eyeshadow (or a contouring powder in a shade you usually use for contouring) and pat it on the middle part of the upper lid as well as along the outer third of the lower lash line. Lightly blend it out. The color doesn't have to be prominent, think of this as a shading step, merely balancing out the features.
The star of this show is, of course, a cobalt blue gel eyeliner. With a precise pointed brush, apply it right next to the eyelashes on the upper lid, from the inner to the outer corner, and finish with a winged flick at the end. You can make the line thicker for a louder effect, or leave it thin as a surprise makeup element.
Connect the flick with the lower lid by applying the cobalt blue in the outer third of the lower lash line.
Coat the upper and lower lashes with your favorite mascara and fill in your eyebrows. Since the look is so minimalistic, the eyebrows will be more noticeable, so make them nicely shaped (even Instagram brows will work here).
That's it, that's the eye makeup. Simple, isn't it?
Face and lips
With a buffing brush, apply foundation on your face, carefully blending all the edges. Next, apply a highlighting concealer under your eyes and tap it in with the tip of your finger.
Pro tip: Apply the concealer just on the lower edge of your under-eye circles if your eyes are protruding, as this will visually push in the protruding part a bit more.
Contour the top of the forehead and under the cheekbones with contouring powder. Complimentary color for blue is pink, so pink blush it is. Swipe it over the apples of the cheeks.
As for the lips, a creamy, brownish nude shade will definitely elevate the look. Line the lips first with a lip liner in a dark nude shade, and then use the lipstick (or a pigmented gloss) over the lips.
