How to make green eyes stand out

Make-up is all about experimenting and playing with colours, but at the same time, you don’t have to apply too many products to make your features pop. Today we’ll show you how to accentuate your best features with a few simple ideas that you can use with quick daily looks, but also with more sultry, sophisticated and bold looks.

Step 1: Define and Blend

Creating definition in the crease takes a bit of time, but once you’re done, your eyes will appear more lifted and you’ll look more rested. If you’re a beginner, start with a transition shade that is only slightly darker than your skin tone. It’s a good idea to start where you want most pigment to be, then work from there and blend into a V-shape. Start with a smaller fluffy brush to deposit the product, then blend with a larger brush.

Gradually start adding darker shades and repeat the same process until you get the intensity you’re going for. The cool part about this is that you can just use the transition shade and call it a daily look, or go for a full-on smokey eye by repeating the steps.

Don’t forget to really work the product into your lash line so that the skin between the lashes doesn’t show. That way your lashes will look fuller and fluffier in an instant.

Pro-tip: If you can, squeeze eye primer into your make-up routine. Primers help keep products in place all day and prevent eyeshadows from fading and creasing. For a seamless transition, set primer with a nude eyeshadow, then blend other products on top.

Step 2: Daytime Drama

To add even more dimension to your eyes, apply the same shades on the lower lash line as well. If your eyes are smaller or hooded, then keep the product on the outer third. If you want a bit more drama, lightly blend the eyeshadow towards the inner half of your lower lash line.

Step 3: Glam It Up

The quickest way to get glammed up in the morning is to use cream eyeshadows (either metallic, glittery, or with a sheen). Use gold for brown eyes, orangey gold for blue eyes, and reddish pink for green eyes. Complimentary colours quite literally compliment each other, so pairing them together just makes sense. Apply the cream eyeshadow to the inner half of the lid, as well as the inner corner.

Tap the product with your finger to heat it up a bit, then set with a powder eyeshadow of the same colour and finish.

Pro-tip:You can pick a different, more shiny shade to use in the inner corner - that will make your eyes pop even more.

Step 4: Curl Them Up

With simple eyeshadow looks, it’s super important to make eyelashes the focus of your look. Before applying mascara, curl your upper lashes by holding them in the curler for about 15 seconds. Then it’s mascara time. Always start on the outer lashes and keep most of the product on the outer third of the eye. To avoid transfer, it’s best to start applying mascara on lower lashes first, then move on to upper lashes.

Pro-tip: The curl of the lashes sometimes tends to disappear in the middle of the day. Try to find a good waterproof mascara that will hold that curl all day for you. Plus, it won’t flake and cascade down your face in the form of tiny meteors.

Step 5: Cover Your Base(s)

When you’re doing a daily look, try to be light-handed with foundation and other base products. To keep it really natural, go for cream-based foundation, blush and contour. Start with a creamy contour product and apply it on the temples, the cheeks and under the chin - but remember that the placement depends on your face shape. Blend it all well and move on to foundation. Apply a thin layer of foundation all over your face and blend with a sponge or brush. The contour underneath should still show through and the foundation over it should give you a seamless glowy look. Set, and you’re ready to go!
